As reported in California Association of Supervisors of Child Welfare and Attendance's Intercom news publication, Lozano Smith Shareholders Ruth Mendyk and Sloan Simmons presented at the CASCWA San Joaquin Section's Fall Workshop in late 2010. The fall workshop was hosted by San Joaquin Section President David Cohen at the Clovis Unified School District. Mr. Simmons conducted a session regarding student searches, including topics ranging from cell phone searches to the search of student lockers. Ms. Mendyk and Mr. Simmons both participated on an expert panel along with Dr. Dennis Wiechmann of Sanger Unified School District, addressing issues and questions on several hot topics for student welfare and attendance officials.

There are also two remaining Lozano Smith Student Practice Group Webinars for the 2010-2011 school year, conducted in partnership with CASCWA, which are scheduled to take place March 28, 2011 regarding intergovernmental relations between school and law enforcement, and May 10, 2011 regarding student discipline, respectively.
