Keeping It Real: Responding to AI-Generated Communications with a focus on Special Education
Event Single

Details

Artificial intelligence (“AI”) is transforming how parents and advocates communicate with school districts, including the submission of complaints and requests that may contain inaccurate legal claims or misleading information. As AI tools become more common, school district employees are increasingly receiving parent communications and complaints that contain language or were wholly generated by AI, on behalf of students with disabilities. While AI can help families organize their concerns, it can also produce communications that contain inaccurate legal citations, misstate special education requirements, or overstate legal entitlements. This presentation explores practical strategies for identifying these communications, responding professionally and consistently while maintaining accessibility, focusing on applicable laws and district policies, and avoiding assumptions about AI-generated content.
