Chronic absenteeism among students with disabilities is not only an educational concern—it can have serious legal implications if left unaddressed. A student's refusal to come to school can render even the most well-developed educational plan ineffective. This session will guide school district staff in how to discuss absenteeism within the context of special education, how to develop student-centered strategies to improve attendance while maintaining compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and related laws, typical scenarios, and relevant OAH caselaw. This event is reserved for school district or public agency employees only.
