Michael V. Cava is Senior Counsel in Lozano Smith's San Diego Office. Mr. Cava primarily represents public agency clients in a variety of labor and employment and governance matters.

Experience

Mr. Cava advises on a wide range of labor and employment matters, including investigations, employee discipline, workplace misconduct, and terminations. He manages complex internal investigations into allegations such as discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and hostile work environment, and develops strategies for dispute resolution and litigation.

Leveraging his extensive experience as a Judge Advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps, he provides guidance on hiring practices, workplace policies, and compliance with state and federal employment laws. His experience includes advising on matters related to police, fire, contracts, procurement, criminal and administrative law, code enforcement, and land use.

Mr. Cava also advises clients on governance matters, offering guidance on conflicts of interest, ethics, transparency, and regulatory compliance. He drafts and reviews governance policies, codes of conduct, and advisory opinions to ensure decision-making aligns with legal standards and organizational goals.

Education

Mr. Cava received his Master of Laws from The Judge Advocate Generals Legal Center and School and his Juris Doctorate from Pepperdine University School of Law. He earned his Master of Arts in Information Systems Management from Webster University and his Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Loyola University, Chicago.
