Lozano Smith Names New Partner and Senior Counsel

(June 1, 2016) - Lozano Smith, LLP, one of California's leading education and public agency law firms, announced that Michelle L. Cannon has become Partner and Kelly M. Rem has been named Senior Counsel. Ms. Cannon is based in Sacramento and joins 25 other partners throughout the firm's nine offices, while Ms. Rem is based in the firm's Walnut Creek office and is a key attorney in the firm's Facilities and Business Practice Group.

Ms. Cannon joined the firm in March of 2015 and works closely with school districts, county offices of education and community colleges in all areas of education law. She is an active member in the Labor & Employment, Students, Community Colleges, Charter Schools and Litigation Practice Groups. Ms. Cannon has extensive experience in board governance, labor and personnel-related matters, student discipline, and charter school facilities. She received recognition as a Northern California Super Lawyer in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Ms. Rem joined the firm in February of 2012 and specializes in Facilities and Business law and Litigation. She has extensive experience advising clients regarding CEQA issues, including procedural requirements, deadlines and statutes of limitation, exemptions, and adequacy of environmental impact reports and other documents. She also has extensive eminent domain experience, and assists school districts with a variety of real property issues including sale and lease transactions, land use and zoning issues, and surplus property requirements.
