Practical Guide to Student Privacy - How to Protect Student Data in a Digital World
Event Single

Details

The privacy of student data is both a legal requirement and a part of the mission of all local education agencies to protect the interests of their students. As technology advances and our fast-paced, internet-based lives have led many educators to "click first and ask questions later," student privacy issues often get lost in the dust. Specific requirements apply to directory information; access by vendors to student data; contracts with vendors and related legal requirements; use of Google and other cloud storage-and-sharing systems in the classroom and in school administration; email correspondence to, from and about students; responding to Public Records Act requests for student data; and more. In this workshop, we'll provide you with a practical review of what a CBO (or any other school administrator) should know about student privacy issues, with a focus on best practices, guidelines and protocols for handling these issues when they arise, and case studies. Join us as we show you how best to balance technology and student data privacy in this fast-changing world of technology.
