Overview

Carol Rugh is an Associate in Lozano Smith's Los Angeles Office. Ms. Rugh supports her public agency clients on a range of issues related to litigation and education.

Experience

Ms. Rugh is an experienced attorney with responsibility for all stages of trial preparation and execution. She works closely with a diverse population of clients, experts, opposing counsel, and claims representatives at all stages of proceedings in personal injury cases and environmental cases. She is experienced in taking depositions, writing and arguing pretrial motions, coordinating experts, writing mediation briefs, writing and researching legal issues for motions and internal memoranda, and writing trial motions. She is skilled in negotiating settlements, identifying risks, evaluating the value of a claim, and settling a high-volume caseload. Ms. Rugh has experience with cases involving neglect and abuse and has represented parents in Dependency Court in all stages of litigation, including trial and reunification. Prior to law school, she was a high school and middle school social studies teacher for ten years.

Education

Ms. Rugh earned her Juris Doctor from Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Scripps College. During law school, Ms. Rugh served as the President of the Animal Law Society, and was the Online Publication Assistant Chair of the Social Justice Symposium. She was a member and two-time recipient of the summer PILF grant, and was received CALI awards in Environmental Law, Environmental Justice, Immigration Law, and Holocaust Law. She also served as a Mock Trial Member of the AAJ Competition. Ms. Rugh also has a Single Subject Teaching Credential in Social Studies from Chapman University.
